Pheromones area

Pheromones are substances produced by a living organism to communicate with other individuals of the same species. Such type of communication is very common among insects, especially for feeding (aggregation pheromones, that indicate food presence) and for reproduction (sexual pheromones, that elicit the attraction of individuals of complementary sexes for mating). The human decodification of this message has allowed to develop an effective system of pest control, without any danger for the environment. Its inclusion in the Integrated Pest Management allows measuring the infestation level and determining accurately the appropriate application time of conventional insecticides, avoiding unnecessary treatments. It also allows to control insect pests by mass trapping or by mating disruption.

Therefore pheromones can be used as a complement or substitute of insecticides, which are being drastically reduced because of new regulations.

The main advantages of pheromones in front of conventional insecticides are their specificity, their extremely low toxicity and their minimum ecological impact.

In SEDQ pheromones area three main activities are developed:

Synthesis of chemical products that are pheromone components and their intermediates to be sold directly as such or used in the preparation of formulations
Manufacture of pheromone blends, attractants and their formulations for their direct commercialisation.
Research and development of new synthesis of pheromone components. Studies on new pheromones. Design and research of dispensers. Their efficacy is tested under real conditions before being commercialised.
